The Lighthouse Preservation Society raised over $75,000 to restore and relight the Ten Pound Island Lighthouse tower and oil house. A large portion of the funds that were raised for this project came from the generous corporate support of the Bank of New England. Located at the center of Gloucester Harbor in Massachusetts, the Ten Pound Island Light was the site of some 50 masterpieces painted by renowned American artist, Winslow Homer. The light was relit and celebrated in conjunction with America's Lighthouse Bicentennial festivities in 1989. The relighting was accompanied by the sound of music and fireworks, before a crowd of over 5,000 people. Shortly thereafter, it was featured in the opening shot of the blockbuster film, The Perfect Storm.
